Wozniacki Triumphs in Three Sets

Former world number one Caroline Wozniacki has advanced to the second round of the US Open after a hard-fought victory over France's Jessika Ponchet.

The Dane, who is unseeded this year, won the match in three sets, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2.

Ponchet Starts Strong

Ponchet, who is ranked 98th in the world, started the match brightly and took the first set 6-4.

However, Wozniacki fought back in the second set and leveled the match at 1-1.

Wozniacki's Experience Shows

The Dane's experience proved to be the difference in the end as she broke Ponchet's serve twice in the third set to win 6-2.

Wozniacki will now face either Petra Martic of Croatia or Tamara Zidansek of Slovenia in the second round.
