Ndp Motion On Palestinian Statehood Passes After Major Amendments

NDP Motion on Palestinian Statehood Passes After Major Amendments

Liberal-NDP Deal Leads to Passage of Softened Motion

House of Commons Approves Non-Binding Resolution

Ottawa, Canada - In a last-minute deal, the Liberal government and the New Democratic Party (NDP) have agreed to amend a controversial motion calling on Canada to recognize the State of Palestine.

The original motion, put forward by the NDP, called on Canada to "unambiguously" recognize the State of Palestine. However, the amended motion passed by the House of Commons on Monday night removes the word "unambiguously" and instead calls on the government to "explore" the possibility of recognizing Palestine.

The amendment was negotiated after the Liberals expressed concerns that the original motion would harm Canada's relationship with Israel. The NDP, on the other hand, argued that the motion was necessary to show support for the Palestinian people.

The amended motion passed with a vote of 262-13, with the Conservatives voting against.
